Alexandre
DURAND

Alexandre Durand

Born in 1973, lives and works in Paris.

After a short stay at the sculpture workshop of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts (Paris), Alexandre Durand graduates in Fine Arts at Paris University (Panthéon-Sorbonne).

He first got interested in "Space Drawing", a photographic process developed by Man Ray. He created  "Bonhommes Bleus" (Blue Men) and walked them almost everywhere throughout Europe.

Using the 3D technology, Alexandre has been developing his "Slow Bomb" project, made of computer-manipulated pictures and videos and creates babies in isometric curves, living in a cold, mechanical, absurd and empty world.

At the same time he uses the technique of animation film to create his F.L.I.M. (Intrinsicly Mediocre Libertarian Storytelling) : short stories featuring famous toys acting in a violent and grotesque way, holding a darkly humorous and often pathetic speech on the economically and politically correct.

He continued to create sculptures and developed his "Allegories" series, sculptures made of re-used materials, combining toys and electronic parts. They illustrate the artist's critical and ironic vision of our society, by confronting the cult of eternal youth, the reign of technology and the outrages of the consumer society.

Alexandre Durand teaches arts and design near Paris.
